Overview

Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, is one of the most famous cities in the world for its historical and cultural heritages. Chinese people, generation after generation, have created and reserved beautiful precious treasures here. At the heart of the city, laid out according to the ancient principles of geomancy, stand the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. In the northwestern city is located the Summer Palace, which is the largest royal garden in the East, built in the 18th Century. A half hour by bus takes you to the Great Wall which started to be built in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period (7th to 8th century B. C.) in order to defend against northern nomads. Beijing has invaluable, almost unparalleled tourist resources that have attracted increasing number of tourists from various countries. Today, Beijing is not only the center of China but also one of the famous tourist cities in the world. Located 30 km northeast of the city, the airport, which annually handles 50 million passengers, has direct airlines connecting many large cities in the world. Particularly, 2008 Olympic Games will be held in Beijing (New Beijing, Great Olympics).
